How did Hemingway do it

Pen those memorable lines we all know

Tolkien, Twain, Poe and Dickens

Those words that we still love to quote

The ones that continue to move us

Like a ship sailing into the night

A sunrise that lights up the darkness

With rays, iridescent and light

*

What magic does it take to write wonder

Lines with power to bring change to the world

Inspirations of a magical moments,

Pure emotion, from something you heard

How did they open up to that gift

To transfer mere words, filled with power

To embolden, inspire and uplift

Saving grace in the final hour

*

Mysteries that heighten the senses

Drama to dare and delight

Of ravens on wing in the distance

The desire to join and take flight

I want to feel all those emotions

Set sail on a journey of words

Disappear into a wave on the ocean

Creating my own little worlds

surreal poetry
