You Are Near

I thought of you today

Sitting outside

In the sun’s ray

I could feel you by my side

My memories of you

Came crashing through

Lifting the curtain of blue

A heart full of love so true

I felt your hand on my hair

As I wept from my heart

I saw a sign flying on the air

A winged-omen playing a part

Reminding me

You forgot me not

When you left me

Here alone to rot

Yet I sit here

Alone

Wishing I could hear

Your ringtone

Reminiscence of good times

While laughing off the bad

My partner in crime

Without you, I’m empty and sad

I felt your presence today

Watching the clouds glide past

Sitting outside on a sunny day

Memories of you coming fast

I’m reminded of all the fun

And especially your love

When we would walk in the sun

But now you watch over from above

No longer of this world

Walking the Earth as a ghost

As I hold yellow photos, edges curled

You wait for me, holding your post

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
