The Lonely Tree
A tree stands bare against the sky
its branches reach yet find no reply
the crescent moon leans soft and near
but gives no comfort lingering here
The hare moves quiet through the grass
its shadow stretching as it will pass
the stars above burn cold and small
they watch but never speak at all
The roots dig deep the trunk holds strong
but nights like these feel hard and long
no whisper comes no song is free
just silence round the lonely tree
The wind cuts sharp through hollow air
a sound of loss hangs heavy there
no dream survives no spirit stays
the ground remembers darker days
A shadow moves the silence breaks
the earth itself begins to shake
yet still it waits no mercy shown
the lonely tree stands all alone.

Loved the words and the rhyme Marie.
The image and words are perfect together for I felt the loneliness of the scene. Good job.
