the lines in the road lead you back home

No poem can be judged;
it speaks simply to the poet herself.
It is her cry,
her scream,
her shout into the void,
her only means of reprieve
for when she feels suffocated
by her past and her grief.
But perhaps, above all else,
those poems and those words,
which burst so violently out of her
yet sound so elegant on the page,
symbolize the dismantling
of oppressive thoughts,
which, in turn,
safeguard her mind
against the invisible thief
who gnaws at her soul,
night after night,
to prevent her
from getting any sleep.
