The Liar's Empire

An Ekphrastic Sonnet

What would happen if the truth did become

Relative, subjective, personal, vague?

A nebulous, grey pandemonium

Such that survivors can't recall a plague?

If nothing is beautiful, true, or good

If wealth is virtue and lying an art

Then all is not well in the neighborhood

And many are troubled in mind and heart

What if, in a spirit of healthy doubt

We treated experts and sages like fools

Became slow to listen and quick to shout

And made our only rule breaking the rules?

Can the claim that nothing is true, be true?

Is reality just a point of view?

Ekphrastic

I think most people would say "no" to those last two questions but yet in broad view of society clearly many lives are being lived as though the answer is "yes" Fantastically thought provoking piece, D.J.!

Oh, you raise some very good points here, D.J. If everything that we believe is "true" is subverted, then where does the "truth" lie? And does it lie? Deftly done, D.J. You may not like him but Trump doesn't half get people talking.
