The Leave Of The Hostage

Poem From An Anthology

By Canuck Scriber Lisa LachapellePublished 12 months ago 1 min read

A myriad of stances like a lake of yearning

A forced respite to quill the night forever

Awareness from the sizzling screen and the trouble in between

Forging memories like making moments, contemplating futures because the present could never outweigh the outcome

Love forever like a smile kept sweet between the palms

To throw to the air an invisible circuit, an impenetrable circus of never-minds while waiting

Windows have no honour guard when curtained truth is blanketed from the margins of nature's betrayal as predicted

Mirrored cries accept the indifference of souls matching the light

No horizon reflected in existence of waking all over again

Oh, simple plans that never hastened midnight

Media like a goddess bending backward to arm the mind's surrender

The great pretender in the gearing of the hostage's leave

Moonstruck gardens are never avenues to the beholden

Rest assured that the path to Heaven is golden and breakfast a path to the future when laden with fruit

A perfect pleasance in happy futures curled in elbow's reach

A slippery surface knows no egos in rising stars that lift our futures when looking over our shoulder

So, past be the present only so far as a wink can tell it or a nod assuredly can

Because grace shines over the world again in welcome feet that greet in circumstances of globe's forever reach

I wrote this poem in 2022 for the "Vision 20/20 Anthology, The Fourth Collection of Our Hometown Poetry by Writers International (WITS) and Sydenham Story Tellers." Edited, designed, compiled and Published by Margaret Bird, 2023.

The theme was post-Covid, to write not about the virus using buzzwords but about the effect. I chose the perspective of everyone being confined from their usual lifestyle in some manner, therefore the word "hostage."
