The Last First Kiss

Love at first sight

By Ashley MatthewsPublished 4 years ago 1 min read
Painting by Leonid Afremov

“Wow, you’re beautiful” and I turned to see

A pair of blue eyes looking right at me

Brilliant shades of the ocean’s dark depths

Locked me in and captured my breath

The strength in his voice weakened my own

“Thank you,” I mumbled in an unfamiliar tone

Words struggled as my pulse raced

But, there was something easy in his smiling face

Touching my back, he offered to pay

Igniting a flame that would make its way

From the cup of coffee he placed in my hand

To the shivers that made my chest expand

Rising and falling, remembering to breathe

Meeting new pleasure as my insides wreathed

My name on his tongue tasted so sweet

He put his hand in mine as we crossed the street

He held my eyes and I found my voice

Our chatter sang surely as heaven rejoiced

Pouring rain turned our walk to a run

Seeking shelter, we found the sun

The storm passed quickly and the night set in

A longing burned from deep within

“You are trembling, are you very cold?”

“No,” I whispered but my heart told

What he heard as my lips met his

My soul found rest in its last first kiss

Eternity knew in those eyes so blue

A divine love was coming true
