The Lantern of Hope
The Light that Shines through the Darkness
I walk in a peaceful darkness
I can't see, yet I'm not afraid
I move forward, knowing it will be ok
In the distance, I see a flicker of light
I walk towards it as it calls my name
Each step brings me closer
The darkness giving way to the light
Suddenly, it's not so dark anymore
I see the trees and the grass
I see the path ahead
This lantern of hope, shining through the unknown
This beautiful light that guides me on
Ever so quiet, yet strong and bright
I follow the lantern through my journey
That carries me through each day
Knowing that with that light with me
I will never be lost

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
