On that night at The Lake
She told him,
Just because I laugh doesn't mean I'm happy
These are tears not teeth between my cheeks
For my temple is full of sorrow and grief
And my smile is the gate that hides it from you
For you don't know of a past I want deep
Hidden beneath my feet
Let it burn in hell and never let it come between you and me
I want it to be forgotten
I want it dead
I want to eliminate this curse
She said, while he sat there listening to her voice dimming after every word.
He watches the lake glow with a tint of gold as the sun vanishes in it
You can't keep me from your past because it is you he replied
How would you know of a frown if you never smiled?
You smile today because you cried yesterday
These forgotten yesterdays you claim are not as bad as you say
Would you know of night if it wasn't for day?
You laugh because you know pain.
They sat and watched the sunset
For this lake is a location where her metamorphous took place
She marked that from this day her heart belongs to him
The scars on her arms didn’t leave him in disgust
The open wound on her wrist didn’t leave him blissed
There was a huge cut over her eye but he didn’t ask why
Except he would simply say there is nothing love can’t fix.
She rest her head on his shoulders blurred eyed
Just a few tears that wouldn’t ooze out
She took a glance at the lake, then at him, and smiled
Can we stay here for a while?
She asked nervously
He didn’t say anything but he did look back her and then returned the smile
And she knew why.
