The Keeper of Your Dreams

A Night Watch for My Firstborn

By The 9x FawdiPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

The world is sleeping, deep and still,

Beyond the window, on the hill.

The house is quiet, clocks are slow,

But I am here, and I won't go.

I rock the chair, a gentle creak,

To hear the soft sounds that you speak.

Not words, but sighs and breaths so light,

That fill the silence of the night.

Your tiny hand, a starfish spread,

Lies trustingly against my chest,

A universe inside my arms,

Protected from all worldly harms.

I trace the curve of one small ear,

And hold you, my one treasure, near.

I wonder who you'll someday be,

As you just sleep so peacefully.

The weight of you, a perfect thing,

Makes my heart beat, and makes it sing.

This love is raw, and new, and deep,

A sacred promise I will keep.

I am the keeper of your dreams,

Or so it truly, rightly seems.

I'll stand my guard against the dark,

And be your ever-living spark.

So sleep, my love, my first, my dear,

There is no reason now for fear.

For I am here, and will remain,

Through lullabies and gentle rain.

And when the morning sun arrives,

And opens up your brand-new eyes,

I'll be the first face that you see,

For now, and for eternity.
