I always thought that words were
Printed on white paper
With black ink
And that the pen was mightier
Than the sword
And life went on
Accordingly
I thought that the leaves changed
Colors in autumn and green in the spring
That summers were warm
The winters cold
And life went on
Accordingly
I guess I must have walked a thousand miles
With my eyes closed
Because I can’t find the sun nor the moon
The water has evaporated
The leaves disintegrated
The flesh is burnt and the soul is weak
The land is barren and the people are meek
Times are so unforgiving
I don’t want to understand
This mystery
Why did you leave so suddenly
My days are empty without you
But I think that I comprehend
The distance you have traveled
The journey that you have made
I will bring red roses to your windowsill
And watch the robins fly to the heavens
With your soul
With your soul
