They thought it was about them
No one was listening
The words were calling but nobody was there
The sounds were shouting but couldn't be heard
The strings were humming without any sense
Everyone was in suspense
There was no pretense
This was a special event
In any case they didn't know who could perform
Or even if this was the norm
They all looked so forlorn
It was happening even before most of them were born
If they would have known had they been listening all along
Maybe then they might have known where they belong
It could have been that what they heard wasn't wrong
They just didn't recognise the hero in the song
