A Poem of Desires Unfulfilled

Our love was like a rose,

A thing of beauty, of wonder.

But it came with thorns unseen,

Beneath the petals of wonder.

They pricked our skin so deep,

As we tangled in passion's embrace.

We knew that what we yearned

Was taboo, bound by time and space.

Our love was born from fate,

But shackled by manmade law.

We knew we couldn't be,

But we struggled to withdraw.

The heartache of forbidden love,

A pain beyond all measure.

For it grips the very soul,

A flame we cannot treasure.

Our love was a tragedy,

A tale of hearts entwined.

We knew it couldn't last,

But still, we were resigned.

To love one who is taboo,

Is a heavy cross to bear.

But we will love each other still,

Though the odds are not fair.

For even if we are caught,

Our love will forever reign.

For love is greater than taboo,

It's the beauty that overcomes pain.
