She dreamed of swallows tweeting as the sun smiled,
Colourful plumes a feast to her eyes,
Coffee freshly percolating while she was sleeping,
The scent waking her in surprise.
**
She dreamed of warm hugs and a mother’s love,
The pitter patter of carefree feet,
A heart full of happiness, a gift of life,
A comfy bed and the realms of a peaceful sleep.
**
She dreamed of heart-stuttering love,
Deep passion that cries her a river,
Safety, security and the sense of community,
And the impossibilities that life had to deliver.
**
She dreamed of a white wedding and sheer lace,
The abundance of forever,
The inbuilt purpose of living as a loving wife,
A bond impossible to break, fail or sever.
**
She dreamed of hope, gifted upon strong shoulders,
Days of never ending belly laughter and heart swelling joy,
Dances under the full moon, hikes through Mother Earth,
Views that take away the pain and long baths to enjoy.
**
She dreamed it all — but soon learned dreams fade into the ether,
Life’s lessons push through boundaries of earnest reality,
Certainty that survival is based solely on the tools of solitude and efficiency,
Dreams are for the lucky few — for she was only gifted life’s adversity.
About the Creator
Colleen Millsteed
My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
