The Hard Truths

A Trembling Manifesto

The hard truths are just gonna go unsaid

They can build their abode, live in my head

Because when they occupy the space between us instead

No other connecting wires can carry signal

//\\

The hard truths are just gonna go unsaid

Last time they touched air

They went from deep, under-skin blue to vein-cut red

Gushing

Gauzed over

Scabbed

Never completely shut

For years.

//\\

And the scar is still there.

//\\

The hard truths are just gonna go unsaid

They’ve settled in, fluffed up big pillows on the bed

Vacated the connection between us, that barest of threads

The dot and dash carrier of our Morse code transmissions

//\\

The hard truths are just gonna go unsaid

Sealed off in a vacuous void

Pretending to be happy

Playing house upstairs

All the while

Scratching away

At the underside of the keloid
