The Greatest Father

I Miss My Dad

By Margaret BrennanPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

Through tear-filled eyes I asked the Lord,

Why He took my Dad.

He was the best of fathers

A girl had ever had.

God looked at me with pity.

And I felt warmth as He smiled.

I thought I felt Him hold me

Then say, “Don’t cry, my child.”

“As time passed, I grew lonely

For the child that I once knew.

He asked to be a father, dear

So I lent him then to you.

But just like any parent,

I worried constantly.

And as your dad grew older,

He must come home with me.”

I thought about how sick dad was -

His mind and body failed.

I knew, then, God’s sweet mercy,

Had once again prevailed.

He couldn’t watch dad suffer,

As it tore His heart apart.

Just like any parent,

His children are His heart.

Though it was hard to say “good-bye”,

Dad’s pain at last would cease;

I started to say “thank you, Lord”.

My Dad was now at peace.

Then as the words began to come,

My thoughts still on my dad,

I knew my God in Heaven is

The Best Dad I ever had.

I never looked at the death of a loved one like this. Definitely a new way to view life . . and death. Thank you for such a heartfelt emotion put into words.
