The Gold of Kinabalu
One of the rarest flowers in the world... Rothschild's Slipper. It grows in a single place, on top of Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia, and can take anywhere from 7 to 15 years to bloom. Named after Ferdinand James Von Rothschild, who's family was famous not only for its finance but also for its philanthropy, especially toward horticultural science. A single spout on the black market is sold on average for 5,000.00 USD. It is currently under protection as it's species is on the brink of extinction.

Deep in the Jungles of Asia
Somewhere in the Islands of Malaysia
She gets ready for her show
All dolled up
Detailing her makeup
The world anxiously waiting for her to wake up
Ten years since her last display
Ten years to bloom but only for a day
A true descendant of royalty
Thriving in the heat and humidity
Part of a dying breed
She is a thing of beauty indeed
When the time is right
She will show herself to the light
And Opening her arms to the world
She will give us a twirl
Displaying her colors and patterns like lace
Imitating the Sumazau’s open arm embrace
For a short while she will dance and dance
The Gold of mount Kinabalu will have you in a trance
And just like the flicker of a flame
Her time will come and end her reign
So brief…
for a beauty that took a lifetime to achieve
All praise her value
But few remember the name
Paphiopedilum Rothschildianum
Spinning endlessly to the sound of the drum
