The girl with the faraway eyes

A silent cry for help

She sits in a room on the edge of a bed

Focusing on a wall with vacant stares

The voices rage inside her head

As she sits and wonders why no one cares

The girl with the faraway eyes.

🔷🔶♦️🔷

I’ve done no wrong as far as I can see

And if I have done no wrong

Can’t someone tell me why you’ve deserted me

Why is this happening to me?

Asks the girl with the faraway eyes.

🔷🔶♦️🔷

I see no hope; my direction is unclear

I beg you, please, is there no one there

Won’t anyone help me overcome my fear?

Maybe I am alone, and there is no one to care

Says the girl with the faraway eyes.

🔷🔶♦️🔷

You look down on me because of my fear

You shy away because I do not speak

I cannot help the way I appear

Have you never experienced true fear

I’m just a girl with faraway eyes.

[Author's note: Sometimes people who are mentally unwell go into a state known as catatonia -a state in which someone is awake but does not seem to respond to other people and their environment. It is very confronting, especially for caregivers and family. Not enough is done with mental health.]
