the girl

the girl who got away

By Brooke LiPublished 4 years ago β€’ 1 min read

So maybe I'm not the girl

You'll think of your whole life.

But I certainly am the girl

Who you'd want to make your wife.

Maybe I'm the girl

Who'll hold your hand for now.

I'll hug you, love you, kiss you

But to me you'd never vow.

I'm not the pretty, cool girl

Who always knows what to say.

I'm the one who gets her heart shattered

The one who you love to play.

I'm the backup girl

The one who's there for you

I'll give you everything I have

But your love will never be true.

I'm the patient, quiet girl

Who sees all your mistakes.

But I'd never judge you for those

Each time I watch your heart break.

I'm the girl who's always there

You can fall back and see.

I'll never leave you lonely

Even when you ignore me.

So maybe you don't want me right now

And I know that that's okay.

One day when I don't want you,

All you'll want is for me to stay.

But I can't wait forever

I know I deserve much more.

So I'll get up and leave

I'll find someone new to adore.

I'll become the girl

That he can't live without.

He'll make me happy; feel alive,

He'll never make me doubt.

And you'll sit back and regret

Why for me you wouldn't stay.

And forever you'll be the guy

Who let the best girl get away.
