The Girl in the Photograph
She was smiling so happy then

The Girl in the Photograph
She smiled behind the frozen glass,
A perfect moment, sealed in frame,
Her eyes still bright, her laughter caught,
Before the years forgot her name.
I found the photo in a drawer,
Its edges curled, the ink half gone,
And when I looked, I swore she moved,
A shadow shifting with the dawn.
I touched the glass, it hummed with life,
Her lips began to softly part,
And though no sound could cross the pane,
I felt her whisper in my heart.
She said the past is never dead,
It sleeps within the walls we build,
And every glance we turn away,
Is something love has left unfilled.
The frame grew cold, the light grew thin,
Her face began to fade from view,
But in that breath of memory’s grace,
I felt she smiled once more, and knew.
That even when the picture fades,
The soul within it still believes,
That love can live in shades of grey,
And haunt the place it never leaves.
