The Gifts She Bestowed

Before her demise

She welcomes you into her bosom of honesty,

Holding tight to the lessons of truth,

Beautiful blooms from heart to heart,

The beginnings of an age old season of youth.

***

She rises on the wings of a butterfly,

Sprinkling you from above with a dose of esteem,

Tomorrow she’ll shelter you from the thunderous storms,

So you can concentrate on living your dream.

***

The air you breathe will be tainted with rose petals,

Their perfume the scenting of love and power,

You’ll find the energy to dance through the day,

As she awards you with the candelabra hour.

***

Swim through the problems that bind you,

Gather her strength as she lassos it through the beams,

She’s definitely your biggest supporter,

As she wears your mournful cries and screams.

***

Her cloak of lemon scented leather,

Warps the timings of your destiny,

She’s giving you her raw honesty,

As your award winning legacy.

***

Ride the ways of her adoration,

Surf the desire she covets from the wind,

An angel kiss is placed gently upon your red lips,

As your nightmares are trapped in her discipline.

***

The roaring of a wild wildebeest,

Echoes from your chest when you see her fall,

Your heart beats in hesitation,

Knowing you’ll forever be haunted by her mournful call.

***

She gave you her protection over her safety,

Leaving you with the bittersweet pain,

Her love for you was famously thwarted,

She gave you her life’s essence so you could successfully remain.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
