The Ghost of Winter Past

Helping a child a lesson newly preached

Frost-Kissed breath paints the night, a chilling scene,

Snowflakes swirl, a spectral curtain drawn between.

An old man walks, cloaked in shadows deep,

Memories frozen, secrets he shall keep.

He halts by a window, glass reflecting white,

A younger him, eyes lit by Christmas light.

Laughter rings, carols fill the air so thin,

A family gathered, love burning within.

But a shadow creeps, joy starts to dim,

Whispers of loss, a teardrop rolls down his chin.

Empty chair, laughter now a hollow sound,

Winter's heart, forever winter-bound.

He turns away, the vision fades in mist,

The weight of years, a burden he can't resist.

But as he walks, a warmth begins to grow,

From whispers of kindness, seeds of love he sowed.

He sees himself, years later, hand outstretched,

Helping a child, a lesson newly preached.

Kindness blooms, a fragile winter rose,

Melting the frost, where only sorrow froze.

The old man smiles, a tear escapes his eye,

The Ghost of Winter Past, learning how to fly.

For even in darkness, hope can take its flight,

And winter's heart can find its summer light.
