The Game We Play

Concealed Battles Within Free Verse

For this poem, I choose, Chris Isaak’s some “Wicked Game” from his record “Heart Shaped World” , to be the inspiration for this poem.

*****************

Consumed with thoughts of only you

Jailed chest, crowded with pent-up breath

**

A pounding heart is nothing new

Warring with unspoken words that seethe

**

Love and anger, through and through

Molding into a disheartened wreathe

**

Blinding terror is all I view

Must I continue to wear my protective sheath?

**

‘Tis a game we play, just us two

Tired, so tired of what we do

**

Make your move, then take your leave

For I can’t stand the lies you weave
