Mighty Wings was flying one day,

When it spotted a brother

On a human’s balcony, roosted in a cage of gray.

One of its own was held prisoner!

Mighty Wings knew he had to rescue the jailed bird.

“I came to help you escape, Brother of my Blood,”

He told the captive magnanimously.

To Mighty Wings’ consternation, the other replied innocently,

“But I do not need saving, good Fellow of the Brotherhood.”

“How can you be content with such an existence

When you ought to soar high and free?”

He exclaimed indignantly.

To which the foolish bird chirped, “I have shelter and food every day.

I am happy.”

“Then you don’t deserve your wings;

you are a disgrace to our proud kind,”

Declared Mighty Wings disdainfully

Before flying away, regal and unconfined.

Binky had been enjoying the sun on the balcony

When a beautiful, wild bird flew to where he stood.

Without any introduction, the powerful animal announced arrogantly,

“I came to help you to escape, Brother of my Blood.”

The words surprised Binky greatly, and he declined politely.

The other feathered-being looked affronted and snarled a battle-cry,

“You don’t deserve your wings; you are a disgrace to our proud kind!”

With a last glare, the feral creature shot up in the sky,

Its flight deadly, its body a lethal arrow, leaving behind

Binky and he began to weep silently.

His heart wounded, his spirits down, he waited quietly

For his owner to bring him back inside the house, inside security.
