The Fragility Of Being Human

Poppy's Prompt #7

Unleashed and untamed

a serpent in the garden

Another soul claimed

another heart hardened

The chord has been broken

left to waiver and fall

A used pile of newspapers

in a collage on the wall

Invisible lines remain parallel

never completing a circle

An endless ride on a carousel

the curses of being mortal

Some say, "that's the cost

of making the choices"

But I say "I'm the boss"

when it comes to my voice

I love the tension you create with the reference to the serpent and the fall and the decision to own your choices, Kelli! Great poem!

  • I love the bit with newspaper collage on the wall; always succinct and well timed. Good luck in Poppy's challenge.

  • Oooo, this was extremely powerful! Loved it!

This seems like a poem that one must like oneself and what one does.

  • We are responsible for our decisions and choices, indeed, however bad or good. Well said, Kelly.
