The Fragile Kingdom of Delusions

When Dreams Collapse

By Katie L. KashanPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

The Fragile Kingdom of Dreams

They walk with a confident, effortless stride,

Ruling a kingdom they built deep inside.

In love, they are tender, in work, they are grand,

The world bends and blooms at the touch of their hand.

Colleagues admire, lovers adore,

Or so they believe—who could ask for more?

Blind to the whispers, the sidelong glance,

Their fantasy waltzes an endless dance.

But reality waits with a merciless hand,

A lover departs they can't understand.

A job slips away, like sand through a sieve,

The world they created refuses to give.

The walls of illusion collapse in a breath,

Leaving them stranded, as still as death.

Paralyzed, empty, unsure where to start,

Shattered illusions cut into their heart.

Yet time is a healer, though truth is denied,

They gather new fragments to build up their pride.

A castle rebuilt on foundations unsound,

With dreams so familiar, illusions rebound.

Never once asking, never once seen,

The cracks in their kingdom, the faults in between.

For truth is too bitter, too jagged, too wild,

So they choose the comfort of dreams reconciled.
