a poem
By Kayleigh Fraser โจPublished 2 years ago โข 1 min read
we didnโt have nearly enough time together
only days within months and a promise of forever
we never knew the cost to maintain
the promises we exchanged with each other in vain
the funeral began years before you left me
long before I inhaled the flames of our history
I had always hoped the smoke was a lie
that underneath it all, you were actually mine
that somehow, someway we would be able to fly
to soar above the suffering, to reach the sky,
to collect the future we had to gain,
to leave behind our cycles of pain,
but that was never going to be,
for you chose your addiction
and I had to chose me

"for you chose your addiction and I had to chose me" Is simply devastating. Glad you chose you though๐
I love this poem. As someone who has had an experience with an ex, who was an addict... and a narcissist... this poem hits hard. I like it a lot. Good job, K. One question, how do you get your titles to be all boldy font like that?
This was powerful from start to close! And the last two linesโฆwoah!
"the funeral began years before you left me long before I inhaled the flames of our history I had always hoped the smoke was a lie that underneath it all, you were actually mine" Gosh these lines hit me so hard! I had to read them so many times because I couldn't get enough of it. So poignantly beautiful. Your poem also seemed very lyrical to me and gave me Taylor Swift vibes. I loveeeeeed this so much!
