The Forest

It Was Us Who Had Changed

It appears in my dreams

In my waking moments

Memories that have been playing on repeat

Even when I daydream

I recall the last moments

Of our time we spent together

Among the forest and the trees

With the dragonflies fluttering through the creek

You’re there too

Barefoot by the spiral tree

Admiring its beauty while touching the leaves

Receiving ancient wisdom from the swirling of the breeze

I’ll always remember

You looking over at me

As you dug your toes beneath

The earth between your feet

At that moment there was just you and me

As we were meant to be

Immersed in the elements of life's beautiful mystery

As this became another moment in our history

Waiting to enter the creek

Surrounded by the sweet

Smells of all the green

Moss blossoming in the spring

Looking up above the trees

Giving thanks for the sun

Rays kissing warmth upon our skin

Blissful of nature sparked within

Watching you gather wood to build fires

As we sat around in silence

Or talking for hours

The embers reflected in my iris

The forest still calls my name

It will never be the same

In the end, the forest remained

But it was us who had changed
