The Festive Guest

A Poetic Holiday Visitor

By Marc OBrienPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
Stocking Stuffer Book "The Final Fence: Sophomores In The Saddle"

When the light

Bright

And white

Shined on the knight

Guarding, ready to fight

An aristocrat

Wearing a festive royal paper hat

Sparkling silver and gold

As I have been told

Walked through the snow

Displaying its wintry style glow

Wanting one last feast

Celebrating peace

Seemed a spirited fellow

Humble and mellow

Approached a door

Not knowing what for

When answered, revealed a boy

Filled with joy

Who just opened his requested playful toy

Showing a happy grin

Expressed, “how have you been?

Come, quickly come in

And see what happened when I win

Our gift giving game

Wow, we are the same

No one to blame,”

He said

Well fed

“It is cheer time

And be kind

Sharing special biscuits and wine

Juice served to you

Magically brewed

And a cracker, that will turn you

Into a fool

So, be cool.”

Suggested the mysterious guest

Delivering a moral test

Helping a child

Developing proper social style

“That I like,”

Agreed the little tyke

Passing the tempting quiz

Acting, bubbly, no fizz

Soon a toast

Performed by the host

Honoring the visiting invisible ghost

Not really there

Calming a scare

Caused when a lighted conversational flair

Made a communication glare

Discussing an angry affair

When those in power

Acted sour

Arguing a debate

Information not important nor great

This should never determine other’s fate

When clock sounded twelve chimes

Forest trees unleashed their scented pine

Reciting the final scripted line

Proclaiming nature’s beauty

Is now on duty

And make sure to bring home leftover foodie

Holiday
