The Ferry
Dedicated to Max (4/6/03 to 10/6/25) - Lantern Light challenge

A soft yellow glow
To guide in the dark;
Through crashing waves
Your soul sits, on the solar barque.
A ferryman at the head
Hums an eerie tune
That melds with the howling wind,
As if at a picnic, on a sunless afternoon.
.
The glow grows brighter
As the ship approaches shore.
The lands of the dead;
Dark as lead;
Save for the lantern that adorns.
.
Ashy flakes dance in the air,
As wind carries them from sycamores.
.
The light gives warmth
To your weary heart,
You no longer feel pain
As your soul, on it's journey through the afterlife,
disembarks.

Amateur poet; daughter of a published poet. I like to try and incorporate folklore/mythology with emotional depth. I've kept my writing to myself for most of my life; but would like to share it - learn, grown. Feedback is appreciated.
