The Fear That Ties

My Wings

By Muhammad Rahim Published 6 months ago 1 min read
Photograph by me

I dream of skies where I could soar,

Where locked-up hopes could breathe once more.

But every time I near the sky,

I stop myself — I don’t know why.

A voice inside begins to shout:

“What if you fall? What if they doubt?”

And so I nod, and say, “Not yet,”

And live a life of deep regret.

They say, "Be bold! You’ve got the spark!"

But I just smile and stay in dark.

They see a soul that shines so bright—

They don’t know how I fear the flight.

I fake my peace, I play my part,

But silent storms still drown my heart.

It’s not the fall that makes me cry,

It’s knowing I didn’t even try.

What dreams have died, I’ll never know,

They stayed asleep, afraid to grow.

And though I ache to touch the sky,

I'm scared to fail... so I pass by.
