This is the story of a farmer’s son and his life from growing up on the farm to leaving the farm and returning once again years later.

In life we overlook the vital role that the farmer plays in taking care of the land, tending to the crops and feeding the people of the land.

Every farmer's son and daughter may not want to work and take care of the land and farm. Most children prefer to move away from home and seek their fortune in the world.

Returning back home to take care of the land is sometimes a difficult decision that the son or daughter of a farmer needs to take. Will the Guardian of the Soil return to take on the responsibilities of nurturing the land for its rich bounty?

Part 1

Sun on the Soil

He watched as his father tilled the soil,

As the sun reflected on the fresh earth.

His father enjoyed his work from dusk to dawn,

He watched his land awake to life every morn.

The farmer’s life was not an easy one,

He worked in the rain, wind and the sun.

His father worked to feed his family,

Seeing his children through university.

The farmer’s wife worked as hard,

Taking care of the livestock and the farm,

She was his solitude at all times, bringing him calm.

The farmer’s son loved his parents,

But he knew that his destiny lay in the world,

It was not long before he left his home,

To learn, grow and other countries to roam.

The farmer took care of his field,

Watering the land and watching it yield,

Crops and a bounty of a golden harvest,

A reward for all his effort he did invest,

Into the land, the soil and the rich earth,

This was his destiny from his birth.

Part 2

The Flaming Fires of the Earth

The farmer’s son was where he needed to be,

Away from the soil, the mud and the wet earth,

He was living his dream in the vast city,

Making his fame, his fortune and his destiny.

The farmer and his loving wife,

Stayed on their farm even when the children had gone,

They were happy tilling and nurturing their land,

Watching the fields flourish, was their plan.

The crops were good and the weather was gold,

It helped the fields to grow and increase ten-fold.

But, as all good things must come to an end,

There came the time when the weather was cold,

There was no sunshine or harvest to touch and hold.

The land was now, dry, cracked and raw,

Like a hungry bird had slashed it with a claw.

Then it happened one summer afternoon,

As the old farmer was returning back home,

After he had tried to water and plow the dry earth,

The land erupted into a sea of wild flames,

Enveloping his wife and himself in its deadly embrace.

It was the end of the farmer and his wife on their field,

As they died in the fury of the dancing flames,

Nature which gave life also put down its claims.

Part 3

Homeward Bound

It was a tragic loss for the family,

They lost both their parents in the fire,

Their lives were snuffed out in seconds,

Their souls were freed in the summer winds.

The children mourned the loss for days,

It was the eldest son who eventually stayed.

He gave up his wild and prosperous city life,

To settle down on the farm with his young wife.

It was not long before he had a young family,

He was happy, as it was where he wanted to be.

The farmer went out every morn,

To harvest his crops and his corn.

His loving wife stayed at home to care for the farm,

Protecting her family from all harm.

The Earth was rejoicing as it bestowed its harvest,

The Sun shone on the fertile and rich bounty,

Which covered the land like a golden sea.

The Son was back home and tilling the soil,

Releasing the magic from within the earth,

This was his destiny from the time of his birth.
