We said good night
Embrace loving and tight
Went separate ways
Neither one knowing what to say
Infatuated gazes explained it all
Mutual romance made the call
Then the next morning
Without any warning
She was not there
Disappeared into thin air
Where did she go?
I do not know
Apparently, this is how it went down
How she skipped my Hallmark setting town
Left our quaint breakfast with a bed
Quietly, nothing said
Panicked, I grabbed sausage, eggs and ham
Felt like I was in a legal jam
Filled with jelly and cream
Realizing, this now was a bad dream
Searched the lake and woods
Thought my companion features were innocent and good
Dusted the dining room and bar
She didn’t even have a car
Arrived by bus
Stepped off I immediately blushed
Seeing beauty, I could not decline
And attitude ever so kind
Smile on the face
Took me to another place
Comforting, honest and true
Never did I express, ‘I love you’
Sitting alone
Next to a twentieth century phone
Which only had a dial tone
Waiting for a ring
And update on our weekend fling
That ended with a puff of smoke
From someone who thought my emotions were a joke
