The Eyes Have It
If you want to know the truth of me

If you want to know the truth of me
My eyes will spill their secret.
Notwithstanding my face and words protest
With heart locked tight, my gaze will leak it.
-
Plainly wrote, my eyes are green
Yet with fractal elements and many facets.
As the colours shift and change
Emotions reveal to gauge a pristine status.
-
The heart is darkest when depression lurks
My eyes transform to sombre brown.
Loneliness, fears of being misunderstood manifest
A deeper shade to realize my misplaced crown.
-
If instead, a vibrant hazel appears
Know that my stubborn heart will not bend.
As the namesake nut alludes
Pride and conviction of self do attend.
-
When my eyes reflect the forest
And all the shades of trees evergreen.
Know that I am at peace, content with myself
My identity, my happiness, my heart feels seen.
-
In the tradition of gemstones rare and elusive
Emerald hues do appear in the grips of passion.
When love is present and overwhelming
A shine everlasting, to my heart's satisfaction.
-
If my temper rises to take the best of me
My eyes flash seafoam as the sky before a storm.
The words my heart strives to unleash are fuelled
By injustices levelled by refusal to conform.
-
If you want to know the truth of me
My eyes, blueprints of nature will tell.
The ever-changing impact of my experiences
Laid bare to those whose gaze dare dwell.
