The epic fall

I wanna be me

By chaimaa alidrissiPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Painting from my favourite artist jungwa Chae

I wanna be yours.

vulnerable to falsehoods, likely to be believed,

i wanna be yours,

feel my heart tick damaged and scarred,

i wanna be yours,

sadness, loss, and even grief,

i wanna be yours,

exploit cruelty for its instrumental worth to you,

i wanna be yours,

daggered, arrowed, still breathing,

I wanna be yours,

a voice in my head, Chasing a dream of a love that was dead,

painted your face with colors so bright,

But in truth, you were shadow, not light.

spun me your stories, so sweet, so grand,

Made me believe you could hold my hand,

But behind every smile, a void did remain,

I loved the illusion, not the pain.

I wanna be your,

fell for the picture, not the man you were,

A dream I could mold, and yet still, I’d defer

To the lies and the charm that kept me around—

Was I the fool, or was I just bound?

I saw what I needed, not what you gave,

Your love was a mirror, cold and depraved.

I hoped you'd change, believed you might,

But you were a ghost in the dead of the night.

I saw all the cracks, felt the weight of the cost,

The more I gave, the more I was lost.

You wore me down with your endless games,

And I burned with the ache of unspoken flames.

And now, finally, I see through the veil,

The love I sought was a ship set to sail

Into storms of your ego, your hunger, your pride,

And I was the fool who kept running to hide.

But here in the silence, I break free,

From the picture of you I thought I’d need.

The love was never real, it was always the price—

The truth was the cure, and I paid it twice.

I wanna be me,

I don't want to be yours, not anymore,

The door's wide open, my heart can soar.

No more chasing a dream that was never mine,

I’ll be whole again, this time, by design.
