The Endless Longing
A Mystical Ghazal by Fakhruddin Iraqi

Fakhruddin Iraqi, a 13th-century Persian poet and mystic, was known for his deeply spiritual and passionate poetry. His ghazals often explore themes of divine love, longing, and the soul’s eternal search for union. In this poem, he expresses the restless heart’s devotion, unable to desire anything but the beloved. The imagery of unfulfilled yearning and unwavering hope reflects the mystical nature of love—both earthly and divine.
🌿 My heart has fallen for the sight of you, and still,
It seeks no other dream, nor desires another thrill.
If ever I take a breath, forgetting your face,
I cannot explain such a lapse in my embrace.
All whom I meet seem content with their fate,
Yet I alone remain restless, trapped in love’s state.
In longing for you, my life fades away,
Yet my heart still hopes for another day.
