The Dog Who Wanted to Be a Reindeer

Beneath the frost of December’s glow,

A little dog watched as the cold winds blow.

His tail wagged fast, his eyes did gleam,

For he had a daring, impossible dream.

“I’ll be a reindeer!” he proudly said,

With antlers made from twigs on his head.

“I’ll pull the sleigh, I’ll fly so high,

And join the team that streaks the sky!”

The reindeer chuckled, their laughter light,

“A dog can’t fly on Christmas night!

You’re made for barks and chasing sticks,

Not magic flights or Santa’s tricks!”

But the little dog stood, unshaken, proud,

“I’ll prove you wrong!” he howled aloud.

Through snowy fields, he trained each day,

Pulling sleds in his reindeer play.

He practiced leaps, though he couldn’t soar,

And wagged his tail when his muscles sore.

His heart was pure, his courage true,

He’d do what others dared not do.

On Christmas Eve, when a reindeer fell,

The dog stepped forward with a hopeful yelp.

Santa smiled, “Come on, my friend,

Tonight, your dream begins to ascend.”

They hitched him fast, and with one great cheer,

The sleigh took off—his time was here!

Through clouds and stars, he pulled his weight,

His heart aglow, his joy was great.

So now each year, if you pause to see,

A dog with antlers flies happily.

For dreams, no matter how big or small,

Can lift us up and change it all.

I loved this and his name is Max like the one on How the Grinch Stole Christmas. To me it read smoothly like a short story for kids.
