The Dog Pissed on My Bed

He didn’t even give a dam

The Dog Pissed on My Bed

The dog pissed on my bed

not the floor

not the rug

not the spot by the door

but the bed

Right where I lay my head

right where I once kissed someone

soft and stupid, thinking it meant forever

I looked at him

he looked at me

tail wagging

like he just solved world peace

There’s a smell now

deep in the mattress

a kind of betrayal

you can’t scrub out with vinegar and tears

He’s not sorry

not even pretending

just sprawled out sideways

like he’s earned the right

to ruin what’s left

And maybe he has

after all

he never promised me anything

never said he’d stay

never swore he wouldn’t wreck me

He just walked in

claimed the warmest part of the house

and left his mark,

Just like you.

They say its a sign of affection, but I don't buy it. Rally liked these lines: "tail wagging like he just solved world peace"

Maybe that dog tried to cover the scent of the one that left and in a bad way kind of succeeded. Another funny one. Good job.
