The Doctor and the Bell
And this is, really, actually how we met!

Our eyes never met across the room,
For there was no room to cross,
Only the street, the market and us.
Man, Myth and Magic,
All three you were then,
Framed in a Glastonbury landmark shop
As I saw you walking towards us.
You were the Doctor,
And I was one too,
First female Doctor in our friend’s imagination,
And later we’d find out you were female sometimes too.
That lazy rhyme was unintended,
I was just telling the truth,
Telling it how it happened, how it is today and how what is just is,
But Who needs rhymes when we had bells as you crossed over towards me?
What event it was which was happening in town, Who knows!
But the Crier cried Oyez, Oyez!
And you approached me as the bell underscored your steps.
Oyez, Oyez! And my attention was fully yours,
Enjoying also that Glastonbury keeps tradition,
And the Town Crier just so happened to be there on that very glorious day.
Oyez, Oyez! And I could not stop watching you approach,
The Doctor in the flesh, the new friend I had recently made,
Enjoying your jokes online,
And your insights into Who, and Trek and Rings,
And often thinking I would like to see more of your face.
And then one bright September day there was your face!
That sunny day – Oyez, Oyez! – the Doctor and the Bell,
That sunny day across the street you came,
And then and there our eyes met,
Our eyes then met, and never let go again.
