The Dinosaur in the Room

An unwelcome guest

By Selina DeCarlesPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The elephant in the room,

More like a dinosaur in our bed-room,

Was an ignored omen of our doom.

The unaddressable dinosaur in our room.

If it weren’t so distinct,

I’d think it all one real bad dream.

This thing supposed to be extinct

Made the relationship easy to predict.

The damn thing so quickly tore

Through the one thing I most cared for,

And so our love went out the door.

How scary and how dreary

That our fate should end in misery.

Could it be this will be healing,

Or will I be left again feeling

That I wish I were merely dreaming?

One conversation,

Even just a little attention,

Should have remedied

What the dinosaur undid.

In the end, he was the winner

Because I couldn't let it linger.

If you must know, this was about much more

Than just the damn dinosaur.
