The Delicious Messiness Of Us

A poem about life's chaos and our place.

Oh, what a delicious mess is man

the one that came and conquered all,

the one that destroyed everything he can

not knowing he would eventually fall,

Tribal by nature

he’s guarded himself so well,

never of himself is he sure

as he rides a rail car straight to hell,

Oh, what a delicious mess is man

as he toils through his everyday,

unhindered by having to follow a plan

and only worried about having it his way,

Unknowingly ignorant of what he doesn’t know

and always his eyes on the future and unmindful,

man is always and forever on the go

to such a degree the devil finds it delightful,

Oh, what a delicious mess is man

as he plans his world to such a degree,

and works himself as hard as he can

never knowing of what other ways there might be,

From job to job he takes on the world

confident that he’s doing all the right things,

not stopping to see where and when his life swirled

causing him to always feel like he was just in the beginnings,

Oh, what a delicious mess is man

as time escapes his very grasp,

failing to catch up even though he ran

and gave it all to that breath was his last,

He failed to account for the important things in life

never stopping to take a little stock,

he had no time for such things as taking a wife

because he had to get the world on lock,

Oh, what a delicious mess is man

who wastes precious time on the dreams of another,

in the end, the shit still hitting the fan

and all he’s left with is a nagging wonder,

For man is a mess, a delicious mess he is

and he accepts no substitutes or pleas,

he goes into the world and handless his biz

until that messiness leaves him buried beneath the trees,

Oh, what a delicious mess is man

as the worms come along and it starts all over again...
