The Decline of Organic Intelligence

A Suspicious Sonnet

How frequently does it occur to you

When you pose questions to other humans

And they pause before expressing a view

That this brief hesitation illumines

Not rumination or reflection deep

But the retrieval of information?

Could it be that technological creep

Has reached a sinister consummation?

Thinking used to involve various things:

Reasoning, imagining, creating;

More and more—and this revelation stings

It seems only to be remembering

Are our minds imitating our machines?

If so, I shudder to think what that means

    I can relate to this wholeheartedly. We must continue to think for ourselves! We are fed so much. Ah, well.

    People are going digital; machines are getting into the analog of fuzzy logic. We're swapping mindsets.
