The Day You Knew

It Happened

By PrimeHorizonPublished 9 months ago 1 min read

You knew it when the rain caught you mid-street,

and instead of running, you laughed—

because suddenly, getting soaked

felt like the start of something,

not an inconvenience.

You knew it when your coffee went cold,

forgotten between sentences,

because her stories were warmer

than anything you’d ever sipped.

You knew it when you caught yourself

saving dumb memes just to send to her,

when your phone lit up with her name

and your pulse did something ridiculous

for someone who “doesn’t get excited.”

And then—

you *really* knew it

when the thought of her leaving

didn’t scare you.

Not because you were sure she’d stay,

but because if she didn’t,

you’d still be grateful

for the way she made you love the world

a little more while she was in it.

But here’s the secret:

She stayed.

And now your life is full of these small,

impossible miracles—

like how her socks always disappear,

like how she steals the blankets

but also the loneliness,

like how “good morning” sounds better

in her sleep-rough voice

than in any song you’ve ever heard.

Love, it turns out,

isn’t a question you answer once.

It’s the quiet “yes” you choose

every day,

in a thousand ordinary ways.
