The Day Strength and Sorrow Met
Echoes of an Unanswered Heart

The call came through after years gone by,
A voice once wrapped in half-truths, lies—
A friend who’d set a time to meet,
Then vanish, leaving me incomplete.
She'd ring me up when storms arose,
But when they cleared, the door would close.
I’d play along, extend my hand,
While she would retreat like shifting sand.
Yet this time felt a different tone—
She checked in daily, kept it known.
That she would show, and make it right,
No sudden disappearance at night.
Still tension tugged from both our sides,
Old patterns neither one denies.
A weary hope, a doubtful trust—
A dance of duty, worn but just.
And then the day arrived at last;
My courage swelled, my heartbeat fast.
I told her I could not attend—
A choice both harsh and heaven-sent.
I felt both strong and shaken through—
Empowered, yet unsure of what to do.
So tired of being summoned when storms would fall,
I gave my all while she gave nothing at all.
A lesson met with silence stern.
I walked away so she could learn.

I found this very relatable. You captured that push-pull of old patterns so well.
