The Dark of Night

I reveal my soul in the dark of night

the time when passions take their flight

when the stare of people and their judging eyes

are lost to my contemplative mind.

Time now to reflect, let go, and be

unimpeded by the rules binding me

release into the world, the adventures locked away

the imaginings held safely inside.

I will use this moment now to wander

disengage from life and simply ponder

because the times I don’t think are so very rare

but necessary to process my sorrow.

Here I will show you where I fail and when I falter

a life full of learning that I would never alter

each word floating toward its next companion

making room for the happenings of tomorrow.

Ask me while the world is sleeping

what I dream of when I’m not dreaming,

and perhaps I will reveal it to you

while covered with the dark of night.
