The Dark Land

"Midway along the journey of our life I woke to find myself in a dark wood, for I had wandered off from the straight path."-Dante

Where hardship begins,

That is where I am.

In a land of craggy peaks

Stretched across a desolate sky,

The black ground is littered with rocks

(And many other things to trip you up).

I’ve been walking here for years

With no end in sight,

The land just expands further.

Climbing over rocks, tripping in the dirt,

You convince yourself after a while

That it doesn’t hurt.

But your lungs are black with dust,

And your heart is drowned with tears;

You’ve finally understood—

The Divine isn’t here.
