The Curse

My story is nothing special

and certainly nothing of treasure.

Once filled with hope at this life such a spectacle

now feeling as if it has been forever.

Not knowing of where that I have come from

and forever searching for answers that escape.

My life lingers longer than it should

destined to roam lonely across this mighty landscape.

Looking high and low for others like I

and often suffering from the lows

looking to the heavens and asking

why can't I just die?

Tired I am, ready for my sweet reward

as my destination awaits me,

the unknown destiny.

The unknown destiny is what we all journey toward

but mine, unfortunately, unlike the many, is a destiny filled with outcomes that number many.

For in all of the world I have not found another,

another one like I.

Someone I seek, someone to call a brother

but that someone I seek, like I, can never die.

For I, I am the one that walks among you, trying to go unnoticed, not by most of you.

I've walked among your kind for many a time.

My story is one that you won't accept as true,

as my story never ends, dragging on forever, and ravaging my mind.

If there are none other, none like me,

then I am the only one.

It is my journey, across the endless paths you see.

Nothing should last forever, nothing with a heart, flesh, and bone.

My pain, my sorrow, my curse, is my immortality.

For I am the immortal, I am the one.

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.
