The Curse of Wildlife

Our turn to suffer

By Seema PatelPublished 7 months ago 1 min read
A killdeer bird @Seema

Every single time,

I hear of mass human tragedy,

I feel it’s the curse of creatures—

whom we harassed,

whose habitat we destroyed,

in our endless greed,

The groves we cut down,

rivers we poisoned,

homes we burned by,

being catalyst for wildfires,

and toxic algal blooms.

We even encroached the sky

and kill birds regularly,

in air strikes.

@Seema

We fall sick,

from own bad lifestyles,

and we exploit them—

for their skin and scales,

lymph, and venom.

We dredge the ocean bottom,

we did not leave,

any parcel of land,

immaculate, untouched.

We want the pelts and tusks,

we want their meat and musk.

Want, want, want...

endless demands,

our turn to suffer,

curse of the critters.
