The Cover Up

What you don’t see

Every morning she wakes up,

She gets up

She puts on her make up,

She tries to keep appearances and her chin up

Though reality is that love has let her down.

She hides the pain

Disguises shame

Denys the fact its a charade

Accepts that she’s the one to blame

For the bruise she covers up

It’s not the black and blue marks

Not ones that you can see, marks

but the ones that left the scars on her that her heart can’t cover up

Cause bruises that far down are out of reach

But you would never know it,

and she’s never gonna show it.

She’s got to keep her lie going, to slow the emptiness that’s growing

Disturbing this façade she calls her life

So when she smiles, just smile back

You can’t do anything to fix that

It’s what it is - a sad fact

She may never let another get that close

sad poetry
