The Courage To Face The Day
Many will prefer to walk away

We live in a world of inconsistency,
Making it tougher on ourselves and especially those we love,
When there is a breakdown between the heart and mind,
Pain will definitely follow, you’re certain to find.
******
I often hear, “Words don’t come easy,’
But I’m wise enough to now understand the truth,
Words are toothless, missing its smile,
Obscure, wasteful, appeasers that hide for a while.
******
Often uttered without careful thought,
Usually for the benefit of instant gratification,
But they bite — oh, they always bite,
When actions portray that which is right.
******
Hearts break, taking years to repair; if ever,
Memories run on speed dial at the back of one’s mind,
A word or two used to gain a false entry,
With no backwards glance at the destruction left behind; unless accidentally.
******
There’ll certainly be a call to arms in the future,
Especially when an explanation is found necessary,
The morals of the one asked will step forward from the shadows,
Showing adulthood or immaturity hiding in the shallows.
******
Mirrors can be the bane of one’s very existence,
A looking glass expose of what’s hidden within the heart — where darkness or love now resides,
Only when the fog from that soul rendering event dissipates,
Will the truth resolve upon the widening of the floodgates.
******
Absolution is available for those with the ultimate courage,
To own past mistakes, to face the karmic force,
To admit defeat of the past character assassination,
That the ego force fed leading to another’s decimation.
******
Heart cleansed to restart with a somewhat clean slate,
Seldom seen for the courage is near impossible to find,
Most will beg for the past to be swept from the mind,
Forgetting that this ensures the issues continue forever, on constant rewind.
About the Creator
Colleen Millsteed
My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Well said, my friend. And so true.
So true! Love that image you put ontop!
Wow, this hits deep! Words can mess up big time, but actions? Oh, they’re the real game-changers. Love the whole “mirror exposing the heart” vibe—so spot on! It’s like a call-out for owning up and cleaning the slate, but oof, the courage bit? Rare as heck. Feels like a poetic truth bomb!✨🌺
There's just soooo much of truth in ypur poem! Well done, my friend!
Oh so very true. In order to move beyond our past we have to face it, own it, and move beyond it. We can’t do that by sweeping under the rug. Nicely done.
